May 24, 2013: I have some sad news to report - the last of the 12 Davao escapees, Col. Jack Hawkins, USMC (Ret.), passed away in Fredericksburg, Virginia last Friday and was laid to rest at Quantico National Cemetery today.  Hawkins, a gentleman, officer, patriot and humble hero, was 96. Without Hawkins's invaluable aid, Escape From Davao would not have been possible.  I feel honored to have known Hawkins and to have been able to call him a friend.  Rest in Peace, Col. Hawkins, Semper Fi and thanks for everything!
